Some really creative and visually stunning work is created for the Day of the Dead celebrations each year. It is a tradition that runs back as far as the Aztecs. Observed over 2 Catholic holy days, it is most massive in Mexico but is celebrated mainly by people of Mexican heritage throughout the world.

On the odd occasion I seem to remember people recommending the book, Possession. One even raved quite wildly about it. It did win the Man Booker Prize so it really should be worth reading. I’ve heard some good things about A. S. Byatt’s writing but the little bit that I’ve glanced at so far has not done much for me. Perhaps it was shortage of time or the mood was wrong. So I decided to have a have a look at the film. It’s an OK film but nothing really too memorable. There was however, a Man With Flowers moment, so I paused to take a snap shot.
I went to see an exhibition some time ago. There was quite a nice mix of all sorts and I enjoyed it. One thing that really sticks is a picture of a man crying. He’s on his knees. His arms are around the legs of a woman on a kitchen floor. He’s dropped the bunch of flowers he was carrying. You can’t see much of her face. But she looks totally bored. As I looked at it two women approached and laughed in a light hearted way as they shared the odd word. They seemed to express something almost bitter sweet. Like revenge. But the laugh made it uncomfortable. Almost like a fantasy.

I came across this whilst flipping through some trashy celeb mag a while ago. I have no idea what it’s about but it looks quite odd. I wonder what he’s doing with the white roses and the basket ball.

A peace sign drawn with flowers over John Lennon’s Strawberry Fields Memorial in Central Park, New York
I found this on the website of retouch maestro Sven Prim. He has a nice range of dark, amusing and bizarre surreal work.
